Hinckley Half Marathon 9/5/10 Race report On an unexpectedly sunny Sunday 6 Striders headed north of the county border to run the Hinckley half marathon. The sunny weather was good for those who like running in their club vest top without freezing on the start line and being able to start working on that summer tan, but less good for those who like running in the cold. The course is a nice undulating route along country lines. This year for miles 5-9 we were running into a strong (but warm) headwind. Sadly for me there were no tall blokes about when I needed one to act as a windbreak (according to Runners World you can save c 10% of your energy reserves by drafting- a Top Tip I frequently employ). Fortunately after this the final 3 miles were downhill. The warm weather added another dimension to the race for us ladies namely a topless Richard Bicknell as allegedly his club vest was too wet to continue wearing (sweat or water- you decide). The ladies continue to out perform the men in terms of prizes, winning 3rd lady and also a team prize (money!) for being the second ladies team. Me, Nadine and Amanda were the 3 places that counted with Kate Evans providing support by keeping the opposition at bay. Even though no PB's were gained today everyone went home happy feeling pleased with their times and all gaining points as this was the third race in the Club Summer Race Series. This really is a nice family friendly, well organised race. So if you haven't run it before don't forget about it for next year. For me and Trevor the run was rounded off by a nice picnic in the sun overlooking the lake- what more could you want on a sunny Sunday.
