On a near perfect evening for running 5 striders plus one supporter (aka my chauffeur, Trevor) headed off to Silverstone to compete in the first race of the East Midlands Grand Prix series, a 10k round the Silverstone race track. The route has potential for fast times being nice and flat but is all too often very windy. However, tonight we were in luck- virtually no wind. Jackie, despite her apparent 'dislike' for racing was there to run with her brother (or was her brother there to stop her walking!?) but she seemed more interested in seeing if she could recoup her race fee in lucozade sport goodies. Not wanting to be parted from her haul she ran the race with lucozade sachets safety pinned into her shorts, ignoring the pain of the chafing. John and Heather Handford also ran but were never spotted by the other Striders, somehow they mingled invisibly among the other 900 runners. Results as follows: Me- 38.19 (PB, first Vet40, and a new club 10k record) Jackie Lindsay- 47.59 (13th V45) Dave Lindsay- 47.59 John Handford- 49.26 Heather Handford- 58.56 Yet again the ladies out did the men by fielding a ladies team- so ladies get your trainers on and get racing.... If you are interested in running any of the other races in the East Midlands Grand Prix series the web site is http://mcs.open.ac.uk/mkac/The_EMGP.html None of these races are in the club series but they are nice runs if you fancy a mid week outing with the prospect of home made cakes and coffee as your post race reward. However, don't forget about our race series especially those races in the Warwickshire Road Race League (see the Striders website for further details).
