Three of us Spa Striders did the Wedgnock Hills & Spills race this Saturday. It's at a new location near Illmington.
The run was cross country and really, really hilly with people having to walk up some of the hills as they were so steep. It was a lovely, sunny day though and the views of the Cotswolds were amazing. For me, the run was going really well and all the way around the marshalls kept telling me how I was first lady. I kept looking around and couldn't even see another lady behind me so at past the 8km mark I was feeling pretty happy with myself and feeling certain I'd get the first lady prize (a very big achievement for me being a new runner!)! However, things weren't to be ... I followed some others who had taken the wrong direction. We kept running until we came to a point where we didn't know whether we had to go left or right, and after some deliberation and discussions, realised we had gone the wrong way and had to re-trace our path back to the correct route. This meant that we did 2km extra and instead of being first lady, I ended up coming in pretty much right at the back. Gutted!!!!! Richard Shepherd did well by following the correct route and coming 6th overall with a time of 45:42 and so did Tim Cole who got a time of 55.51! My time was 1.05:49 but then I did do a few extra km's! It was a brilliant run though, with amazing views and I'm looking forward to the next one (although maybe not the hills!)! |
