The Kenilworth Half Marathon, the second race in our Winter Race Series, was held last Sunday in almost perfect conditions with a bright blue sky and a slight nip in the air.
There was an in-depth discussion before the race on how hilly the course was - the conclusion I believe after the race was that there aint any flat bits! Anyway 8 Striders joined 450 others to take on the challenge. Tim Stooks was in good form to lead the Striders home and claim his 50 points in a creditable 1:30.30. Neil Butcher (1:38.31) and Leo Calvo-Bado (1:41.32) both ran well to get back to the marvellous cakes on sale in the Sports Hall before the mass of runners had finished! Richard Bicknell (1:42.18) was surprised to overtake Ivor Westmore (1:42.48) in the closing stages but Ivor did have to walk the last mile due to injury! Chris Dawes (1:46.30) and Terry Bright (2:05.00) completed the field for the Striders men. Sandra Stokes was the only Striders Lady to take up the challenge and was rewarded with 50 points in the Winter Race Series for her efforts. It proves the maxim that 'You've got to be in it to win it' Sandra was pleased with her time (2:12.29) and delighted with the 50 points! |
